Grace Alice Sanders Newman, known by family and friends as "Gracie", a most beloved citizen of Dickson, TN, died suddenly and unexpected January 27, 2026, at Tri-Star Medical Center, Grace was 60 years of age.
Gracie Alice Newman was born on July 11, 1965, to her loving mother, Shirley Ray Sanders who preceded her in death on March 14th, 2011. Gracie passed away on January 27, 2026, at Tristar Medical Center from a short illness.
Gracie came to know Christ as a young woman and was a lifetime member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as the church clerk for 13 years and then joined the janitorial staff of the church for the remaining 15 years.
Gracie graduated from Dickson County High School class of 1983, where she played basketball for the Lady Cougars.
She worked at Walmart from 1994-2026, ending her career as an Assistant Manager. There she was known for bringing lots of laughter and smiles, and handing candy to all the younger customers that entered the store. She loved being a part of the team and making others feel appreciated and seen in their daily work.
Gracie is survived by her loving husband, Michael, her two children: Simona and Lucas Ashley (Aujel); her brother Kenneth (Mary); and stepson Michael Murphy; her uncle Frank Leslie Sanders, Jr. and aunt Anne Hall. She was raised with seven cousins under the loving care and guidance of Shirley, three of whom have preceded her in death: Ulyanda Corlew, Diane Pollard, and Anthony Pollard.
The remaining family members are: Nilda Spicer (Dickson, TN), Finley (Cynitha) Pollard (Spartanburg, SC), Carolyn Pollard (Nashville, TN), Bonita (Nick) Watson (Murfreesboro, TN) Michelle (Mackey) Long (Nashville, TN), Leroy Hardy, Lenora Newman, George Newman, Curly Newman (Marie), Deborah Newman (Harold), Richard Newman (Felicia), Tommy Newman, and Christopher Newman, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces and nephews and "adopted children".
Gracie's numerous sacrifices will go unknown by the vast majority. We will only be aware of her contagious smile and hard work. She was a true original, a blessing, a loving mother and spouse, devoted friend, loving aunt, caregiver, and adopted mother to so many in the community, and a true woman of God.
