Charlotte, TN - Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, April 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. from the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Dwight Work gave her eulogy and Rev. Joyce Lighari officiated. Visitation was on Friday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Place of rest will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Rose Arlene McClelland Baird, age 78 of Charlotte, Tennessee, died unexpectedly on Monday April 6, 2026.


She was born in Charlotte, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late Vervin Thomas Sr. and Verla Duke McClelland. Rose was a graduate of Charlotte High School, Class of 1965. She was a longtime member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church. She has been married to Bob Baird for some 30 years. As Bob said, "she was a wife with a very commanding voice."


Rose was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, V. T. McClelland Jr., Virginia Chandler, Joel McClelland, James Robert McClelland, Herbert McClelland, Mary Ann Jones, Sarah Spruill, Linda Cammack and Clara Story.


Most of her professional career Rose did administrative work. She served as the extradition officer for the State of Tennessee during the administrations of the late Gov. Ned Ray McWherter and former governor Lamar Alexander. She also served on the Tennessee Parole Board.


Rose was truly one of a kind. She was the life of the party so to speak, always enjoying every minute of her day. Rose was funny, smart, and had the ability to make one feel very special. Rose didn't have a shy bone in her body. She kept up with the politics of the world and once said that she read Psalms 56 for President Trump each and every day.


Rose is survived by her husband, Bob Baird of Charlotte, TN, her children, Mary Ann Homic and husband Craig of Cape Coral FL, Kristen Math and husband Thomas of Sartell, Minnesota, Erik Baird of Bedford, Texas and Wayne Hill of Madison, AL; her sister, Brenda Work and her husband Dwight of Dickson, TN and her brother William C. "Sharkey" McClelland and his wife Jennifer of Jackson, TN; 10 grandchildren and foru great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
